A Century at the LakeHelp us tell the story

Lake Lotawana turns 100 in 2028. Share the stories, photos and people that made it home.

Not Sure Where to Start?

You don’t need to be a lifelong resident to have something worth sharing. Maybe you arrived recently and discovered a tradition you love. Maybe your family spent summers here decades ago. Here are a few questions to get you going:

  • Who remembers when your house was a little summer cabin?
  • What lake characters, family traditions or unlikely friendships stayed with you?
  • Which ordinary afternoon do you still think about?
  • What has changed? What do you hope never changes?
  • What’s a story you wish someone had asked your parents or grandparents to tell?

Go Look in a Few Closets

As colder weather sends us indoors, it’s the perfect time to dig.

  1. Pull out the albums and boxes. Ask who ended up with Grandma’s photographs.
  2. Track down the home movies. Find out what happened to the slides, film reels and VHS tapes.
  3. Jot it down. If a picture brings a story to mind, write a few lines while it’s fresh.
  4. Call someone who was there. See what they remember — then send them our way.

The Centennial Committee has been meeting since the summer of 2026, and planning is underway for a 2028 filled with celebrations, memories and plenty of Lotawana fun. Watch the Lotawana News for interviews and updates as plans take shape.

Nearly 100 years of Lotawana memories are scattered throughout this community. Some are carefully preserved in albums. Others are at risk of being lost to time. Let’s start asking. Let’s start listening.

And if you’ve ever said, “Somebody ought to write that down,” consider this your invitation.
